3 Takeaways from the Battery Show North America
During the North America Battery Show, October 7-10, 2024, at Huntington Place in Detroit, MI, Envalior showcased engineering material solutions tailored for battery and electric vehicle (EV) applications and innovations, including battery housings, high voltage connectors, and thermal runaway prevention.
Below are three takeaways from the Battery Show North America:
1. Strong Yet Lightweight Battery Housings
To address the need for lighter, stronger, and safer battery solutions, we have developed the first fully functional high-voltage battery enclosure made entirely of engineered plastics. Utilizing Durethan® B24CMH2.0 (PA6) and Tepex thermoplastic composite sheet technology, this groundbreaking design offers reduced weight, lower costs, and a smaller carbon footprint compared to traditional metal enclosures.
2. Safe High-Voltage Connectors
We are committed to providing safe solutions for high-voltage applications. Our high-voltage connectors, rated for CTI 600 V in accordance with IEC 60112, boast materials with tracking resistance up to 900 V. These components have been rigorously tested to meet or exceed the latest UL and IEC standards for fire and electrical safety. Suggested grades include ForTii® T11, ForTii® TX1, and Akulon® SG-KGS6/HV.
3. Thermal Runaway Prevention with Stanyl® SN-Pure
While lithium-ion batteries are the go-to choice for battery-powered vehicles due to their high output and energy density, safety remains a critical concern due to the flammability of the electrolyte. Our SuccinoNitrile (SN) electrolyte additive significantly mitigates flammability risk by reducing harmful gas generation and protecting the cathode, which helps prevent thermal runaway. Stanyl® SN-Pure also increases capacity retention of the batteries and extends battery life performance.
