Re-shaping the automotive industry

Tuesday November 27th you joined our event at the facility of Envalior's technology partner Toyota Motorsport Group (TMG) to discuss the disrupted change the automotive industry is facing. We, as Envalior are joining you in the journey of re-shaping the industry. Next to the presentation of e-Xstream Engineering Toyota Motorsport Group, Envalior and Envalior Additive Manufacturing you met the experts for a valuable discussion about fast and reliable light weighting. You can download papers and the presentations by clicking the links.

Meet the experts

Bernard Alsteens, Manager customer service at e-Xstream, about e-Xstream and Envalior collaboration.
Combining the Envalior materials portfolio with the Digimat technology to empower the automotive industry to design lighter, stiffer and quicker.

Hans Plug, New business development manager at Envalior Dyneema about the use of Dyneema fibers to reinforce carbon composites.
Dyneema is the strongest, most durable lightweight fiber in the world – 15 times stronger than steel and so light it floats on water. Dyneema is used to create the highest performance in safety, industrial, sports and outdoor products. In composites, carbon with Dyneema offers superior impact resistance, thus improving driver safety and crash test performance in composite cars.

Lucien Douven and Marc Kanters, research scientists, design engineers at Envalior about Predictability CAE.
Short glass fiber reinforced plastics (SFRP) are increasingly employed in load-bearing structural parts. For successful development of automotive applications in these engineering plastics, being able to predict the mechanical performance at the design stage is critical. This requires accurate material models that include effects of glass fiber orientation, strain rate, temperature, etc. Our goal is to provide reliable material models not only to predict static behavior, but also lifetime/fatigue, crash, NVH.

Giacomo Perfetti, application development engineer automotive, Envalior about Envalior’s automotive weight-loss factory.
The building block of Envalior’s automotive weight-loss factory is the, so called unidirectional (UD) thermoplastic tape. These unidirectional, continuous fiber-reinforced, thermoplastic tapes are products that help the automobile industry to address its growing need for lightweight design. Our broader strategy extends well beyond just supplying the product, to offering robust application, expertise in tape-laying or tape-winding and the necessary manufacturing technology and design support.

Abel Pot, Application development engineer E/E, Envalior about Automotive E/E plastics portfolio.
A short introduction to the challenges and solutions with the Envalior material portfolio to support the electrification of cars.

Patrick Duis, Segment leader transportation, Envalior Additive Manufacturing about Additive Manufacturing.
To support the transition to new mobility new innovative materials are designed at Envalior additive manufacturing (Envalior AM). By adding our long track record in automotive and auto-electronics we aim for direct printing of functional parts. By addressing a wide range of technologies and application knowledge we can support future mobility needs like lightweight design, parts on demand and small personalized series .

From aerodynamics models for motorsports to spare parts In automotive we address the right polymers and design criteria to create new complex parts. For example we use  Novamid ID1030-CF10 in structural components and  Arnitel ID2060 HT for Air-fuel management. Envalior AM also makes use of novel modelling techniques with Digimat AM  for designing and predicting part performance for FFF (fused filament fabrication) and FGF (fused granular fabrication).

Ruud HawinkelsGlobal CAE manager, Envalior about Metal replacement, application case.
Metal replacement in the automotive industry requires predictability and safety. A solid track record in safety critical applications pushed us to develop in reliability and predictability. New materials combined with new predictive methods sets us up for first-of-a-kind metal replacement developments. A sneak preview into 2019 will show you Envalior’s solutions for reliable metal replacement developments.

Hans van Dijk, Product development manager ForTii, Envalior about the position of the glass transition temperature (Tg) in PPA’s.
It will be shown how structural aspects determine the position of Tg. The advantage of Envalior’s unique C4 chemistry will be explained and used to demonstrate the feasibility of high Tg materials with relatively high crystallinity and best-in-class chemical resistance. This results in a broadening of the application window of PPA’s towards higher temperatures.
